Die Baureihen 25, 65.10 und 83.10. In 1945, the motive power situation of the railways in the Soviet occupation zone of Germany was precarious, and the locomotive industry was not in much better shape. Very soon, however, plans evolved for new designs, which resulted in classes 25 (2-8-0, only two built), 65.10 and 83.10 (both 2-8-4T). Their development, including the interplay between railway and industry, is described in fascinating detail, as is the testing and subsequent service. 312 pages, ca 400 ill, hb.
