Jean Sibelius abandoned his law career to study music in Europe and didn´t devote himself fully to his composing career until he was 32 years old.
In 1897, he returned from Europe to teach music in Finland. His unique musical talents and achievements were soon recognised by the Finnish Government and he was awarded a state grant to allow him to concentrate fully on his creative career a strongly patriotic man, Sibelius is perhapsbest remembered for his symphonic poems which are strongly related to Kalevala, the national Finnish poem.
From an unlikely background, Sibelius developed into one of the most versatile of all the composers and wrote many outstanding instrumental, orchestral and vocal works.
